How to Safely Exercise During Pregnancy and Postpartum: Why a Specialist Matters

The journey from prengancy to postpartum and beyond is the greatest physical transformation many of us will ever experience. Yet, the fitness advice available to mamas is often frustratingly vague—usually some version of "take it easy" or "just do what you did before, but lighter."

As a mother and a professional, I know that neither of those options helps you feel strong, capable, or confident.

Whether you are navigating a changing center of gravity during pregnancy or you are months postpartum and wondering why your body feels "disconnected," there is a massive difference between general fitness and specialized movement. I built Moms Fit Life to bridge that gap.

Why You Need a Pregnancy Movement Specialist

Many women think they only need a specialist after the baby arrives to "fix" things. But the work we do during pregnancy is the ultimate proactive care. It isn't just about "staying active"—it’s about training for the specific physical demands of birth and motherhood.

As a Certified Pregnancy and Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist (PCES), I look at your pregnancy movement through a functional lens. We aren't just checking off a workout; we are:

Preparing for the "Marathon of Birth": Using specific movements to support pelvic mobility and optimal fetal positioning.

Managing Intra-Abdominal Pressure: Learning how to breathe and move to minimize the severity of Diastasis Recti and pelvic floor dysfunction before they even start.

Addressing Pregnancy Aches: Solving the "why" behind your SI joint pain or rib flare so you can stay mobile as your bump grows.

The Bridge Between Physical Therapy and the Gym

Think of me as the bridge between your medical providers and your long-term fitness goals. My approach is rooted in science; I earned my degree in Kinesiology from the University of Maryland before I ever stepped onto a gym floor as a trainer. That academic foundation is what led me to pursue high-level credentials like the ACSM-CEP and eventually specialize in the pelvic floor.

I’m not just a "regular trainer" who decided to work with moms; I’m a movement specialist who understands the clinical side of your journey.

I often work alongside Pelvic Floor Physical Therapists. They do the incredible, necessary internal "rehab" work; I take those foundations and translate them into the weight room and your daily life. If your PT gives you a breathing exercise, I’m the person who helps you apply that breath to a heavy deadlift or when you’re hauling a double stroller up a hill. I don’t use fancy clinical machines, but I use a clinical mindset to help you transition from "healing" to "thriving."

Beyond the "Bounce Back"

The fitness industry is obsessed with "bouncing back," but I’ve always found that approach a bit hollow. Your body didn’t "go" anywhere—it evolved. You’ve done something incredible, and you deserve a movement plan that respects that evolution rather than trying to erase it.

My goal isn't to get you back to who you were before; it’s to make you the strongest, most capable version of who you are now. Consistency beats intensity every single time. We don't need "perfect" hour-long sessions; we need smart, intentional movement that fits into the messy, beautiful pockets of your life.
